United States Attorney Glenn T. Suddaby announced today that on August 21, 2007, ALAN SKORUPSKI, age 58, of Averill Park, New York, pled guilty in U.S. District Court, Albany, New York, before the Hon. Gary L. Sharpe, United States District Court Judge, to Count 2 of an Indictment charging him with Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and Distribute Crack Cocaine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. 846 and 841(a)(1). SKORUPSKI admitted that he was an associate of a criminal organization in Albany, New York, known as the “Jungle Junkies” and engaged in crack cocaine trafficking with members of the Jungle Junkies. SKORUPSKI admitted that beginning in or about 2006 and continuing thereafter up to October 13, 2006, he routinely utilized telephones to communicate with other members of the conspiracy to conduct narcotics-related business, and that he possessed with intent to distribute and distributed crack cocaine (cocaine base), a Schedule II controlled substance in the Northern District of New York. At sentencing, which is scheduled for December 19, 2007, SKORUPSKI faces a maximum of Life imprisonment, supervised release for Life, a fine of up to $4,000,000. This prosecution resulted from a joint investigation conducted by the Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York; the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany Field Division; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Administration, Albany District Office; the City of Albany Police Department; the Albany County Sheriff’s Department; the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department; the New York State Department of Corrections; the New York State Division of Parole; and the New York State Police, with the assistance of the United States Marshal, Northern District of New York, Albany Office; the Albany County District Attorney’s Office; the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office; the Town of Guilderland Police Department; the Town of Bethlehem Police Department; and the City of Cohoes Police Department.
