MASSACHUSETTS MAN AND WOMAN INDICTED FOR BANK ROBBERY

April 11, 2007

PRESS RELEASE

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that on April 11, 2007, a grand jury sitting in Rutland, Vermont returned a one-count indictment charging Patrick Mackey, 43, and Marion Barringer, 52, both of Adams, Massachusetts, with Bank Robbery. The indictment alleges that on December 19, 2005, the defendants robbed the Citizens Bank, located in Brattleboro, Vermont. The indictment further alleges that they robbed the federally insured bank of more than $1,300, by use of intimidation. No arraignment date has been set.

If convicted, the defendants face a maximum of twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine. United States Attorney Thomas D. Anderson cautioned that an indictment is only a method of bringing charges and is not proof of guilt. He noted that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. United States Attorney Anderson thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Brattleboro Police Department, and the Metropolitan Police Department located in Nashville, Tennessee who investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth C. Woodcock has been assigned to prosecute the case for the United States.
