ASSET SEIZURE & FORFEITURE
The mission of the Asset
Forfeiture Program is to seize and forfeit property under civil and criminal
statutes of the United States. Criminal activity motivated by greed frequently
results in the acquisition of material goods. The ability of the Government to
forfeit property connected with criminal activity can be an effective law
enforcement tool in such cases, because it materially affects the motivation
that resulted in the illegal conduct. Some of the more common violations
resulting in forfeiture of assets include drug-related offenses, sexual
exploitation of children, counterfeiting matters, copyright matters, illegal
gambling and money laundering.
