Andrew W. Vale was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from the State University College at Buffalo in 1987, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to his appointment with the FBI, Mr. Vale spent four years with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, in Buffalo, New York, as an Immigration Inspector and Immigration Detention Officer. In September 1991, Mr. Vale entered on duty with the FBI as a Special Agent. Upon completion of training at Quantico, Virginia, Mr. Vale was assigned to the Newark Division, where he conducted terrorism, background, and civil rights investigations. In October 1998, Mr. Vale was promoted to Supervisor of the Newark Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he supervised Domestic and International Terrorism investigations. In November 2001, he transferred to the Counterterrorism Division’s Domestic Terrorism Operations Unit (DTOU), FBIHQ. In this capacity, he provided program management oversight for all Domestic Terrorism investigations occurring within the Northeast Region of the United States. In August 2003, Mr. Vale was promoted to Unit Chief of the DTOU. In January 2005, he was appointed Unit Chief of the Director’s Research Group, where he reviews, edits, and approves briefing materials for the Director’s Congressional testimony, domestic and international travel, and meetings. Mr. Vale was appointed Assistant Special Agent in charge of the Albany Division on August 14, 2006. Mr. Vale has been married for 14 years. He and his wife, Hope, have two children.
